A Critical Evaluation of the Language Culture in Montenegro and Its Contemporary Importance
Abstract
The Montenegrin language culture as an intangible cultural asset is still unprotected. In this paper, we consider some detail aspects of this problem, not only through the prism of philological perspectives (e.g., sociolinguistic and dialectological), but also in the context of general cultural values. We discuss some linguistic criteria and examine the didactic program for the Montenegrin language as a subject of higher education. Moreover, the value judgments that are communicated in public are still shaped by the remnants of traditionalist linguistic approaches from the past. We posit that cultural policy needs to bring language culture closer to young people through educational strategies and the school system, all based on relevant linguistic theories, supported by advanced communication tools and platforms of the modern world.
