A Letter from the Paša of Belgrade to the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont
Abstract
The subject of this article is a letter about Waldeck’s involvement in the Turkish Wars, more specifically an undated letter from the Paša of Belgrade to the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont. The letter is actually meant to be in the holdings of the Hessian State Archives in Marburg (Hessisches Staatsarchiv), whose director in 2000 requested “administrative assistance” (“Amtshilfe”) from the authorites in Kassel. The edition presented here is based on copies sent to Kassel in 2000 when, however, the original could no longer be found. The original document, which was accompanied by a Latin translation (also published here), concerns the request for the repatriation of prisoners of war and belongs to a series of similar documents.
